Sorry about yet another message like this.
We have just walked in the door with Jan having driven 600 Kms. today to receive a phone message from Peter’s family.
I spoke to his wife Judy and daughter Julianne

He was a Direct Entry who was the Chief Chippy in Albatross in 1967/68 when I was there and I then followed him onto the Sydney in 1970/71.

Will follow up with info about Ron Maughan after we unpack.

His war service consisted of:

Peter served in HMAS Sydney in Korea in 1953.

And in Vietnam in HMAS Melbourne in 65, and 2 trips in 66.
2 x trips HMAS Sydney in 70 and another in 71.

RIP Peter, fair winds and follwing seas.

I never served with 'Peter', but it's always sad to lose another Chippy... Rest on your oars, Peter, your journey's done... R.I.P.

Peter was my first CNS when I left Nirimba and posted to HMAS Sydney in January 1971. He and Sparrow Francis were great guides in my first sea posting.
RIP Peter George.
