A quick check of the "Skilled Hands At Sea" nominal lists shows an S. T. Forsyth in the 28th MOBI Intake
of January 1970, and whilst I didn't know him personally, I regret to have to announce Sam's passing...

VALE Sam, rest on your oars, Matey, your voyage is done...!

May your journey have sunshine, soft breezes and a following sea. RIP Sam.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Sam, but sad to loose another MOBI.

Another mate gone to early, I joined up with Sam and although not close he was a mate and a mobi , what better could be said of a man on his passing.

I recall Sam when I was posted back to Nirimba as an instructor. Think he used to knock about with "Happy" Bevan.

Served with Sam on HMAS Labuan,He was my 2nd Tiffy and a good bloke and tradesman.This is first I heard of his passing,so a bit of a shock .Sadly missed

They talked of the scran
the chefs would make
And the shrill of the bosuns pipe.
How salt spray would fall
Like sparks from hell
When a storm struck in the night.

They remember old shipmates
Already gone
Who forever hold a spot in their heart,
When sailors were bold,
And friendships would hold,
Until death ripped them apart.

They speak of nights
Spent in bawdy houses
On many foreign shore,
Of the beer they'd down
As gathering around,
Telling jokes with a busty whore.

Their sailing days
Are gone away,
Never again will they cross the brow.
They have no regrets,
They know they are blessed,
For honoring the sacred vow.

Their numbers grow less
With each passing day
As the final muster begins,
There's nothing to lose,
All have paid their dues,
And they'll sail with shipmates again.

I've heard them say
Before getting underway
That there's still some sailing to do,
They'll say with a grin that their ship has come in,

And the Good Lord is commanding the crew.
