VALE WOMTP5 Ian McGrigor - 22nd MOBI Intake, of January 1967

Following a phone call from a distressed Gary Lucev this afternoon, it is my sad duty to report the shock
passing overnight of Ian McGrigor, (in Rockingham Hospital, WA,) of recently diagnosed stomach cancer.

Our sincere sympathies to Ian's widow, Chris and her family.

Gary has also asked me to post this because Ian's widow Chis is urgently wanting to contact Calvin Perkis,
21st MOBI Intake and Dickie Roots (who has since changed his surname,) of Ian's own 22nd MOBI Intake
(same term as Brian Carney and Dickie Roebuck).

If anyone has contact details for Dickie and/ or Calvin, as first point of contact, could you please call
Gary Lucev on (0411) 350 902...

I've just had a call from Dickie Crofton (nee Roots) regarding the above info.

I will send out a mass email to other term mates about the sad news.

Ian "Mac" was a bloke that will always be remembered as one the characters of out term.

Just got off the phone with Lucii. The funeral details for Ian will be held at:

Friday the 8th of November at 1000.

Venue will be at Chapel "D", Fremantle Cemetery.

Afterwards, a wake will be held at the Rockingham Naval Assoc., Point Peron

It is with a profoundly heavy heart that I must tell you that Charlie Finch has just rung me to inform me of the recent passing of Ian (Macka) McGrigor with stomach cancer.

My memories of Ian was of a happy-go-lucky larrikin with a big heart and a larger than life personality. His infectious sense of humour and booming laugh will be sorely missed. He was a pleasure to play Rugby with and against at Nirimba.

My thoughts and deepest condolences are with his wife Chris and family at this distressingly sad time.

It is with great sadness that I hear of the passing of our great friend and term mate “Mac” McGrigor. We will all miss his enthusiasm, his sense of humour and of course that wonderful laugh. I too would like to wish his family my condolences and sympathy for their loss. I know I speak for us all, that our meetings will not be the same.

Thanks go to Rick whom I rang yesterday with the sad/bad news and was unable to post myself.

Mrs Mac rang our home just 15 mins before I contacted Rick, and altho very good friends with my missus, insisted she speak with me re Ian's passing.

I was and still in shock....

Chris was trying to get hold of 2 of Ian's buddies and asked me to help.....

After a call to Mt Gambier and one Charles Finch, we had a couple of numbers to try.

I passed those along to Chris and later received another call from her with the funeral details.

Can only imagine the mayhem at her place, I could hear many voices in the background, so she is being very well supported.

This morning at sparrow fart, received a wake up call from Brian Carney, with info and a chat.
Thanks BC...nice to know the SH system works.

If anyone would like to attend Mac's funeral, please do and thence to the Rockingham Naval Assoc, AKA Rockingham Navy Club at Point Peron, just behind the Pass Office for Stirling and the Sea Cadets.

Sincere condolences to Chris and Family. I will always remember "Mac" as one of the happiest and most fun people to be around at Nirimba. Especially glad that we caught up at our last reunion. You will be sadly missed. Rest on your oars mate, too young to leave us.

Ian will be missed by many, a champion bloke always able to lift everybodys spirits with his humour and ability to take the mick out of whatever situation.

I still remember playing golf with Ian and I think Dickie at Cerberus - an absolute hiatus for 18 holes of sledging, hooking, slicing and everything in between. Sincere condolences to Ian's Family.
