1. IT IS WITH GREAT SADNESS THAT I INFORM YOU OF THE PASSING OF REAR ADMIRAL ANDREW JOHN ROBERTSON, AO, DSC, RAN (RETD). REAR ADMIRAL ROBERTSON MADE A SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTION TO NAVY, IN WAR AND IN PEACE, DURING HIS DISTINGUISHED 43 YEAR CAREER, AND IN THE FOUR DECADES SINCE HIS RETIREMENT.

A really nice man. I always enjoyed a chat with him each ANZAC day when he led the SYDNEY contingent. I'm sure he remembered the name of every man he spoke to. Still very sprightly in his 80's and early 90's. He was also patron of TS SYDNEY and loved his visits to Spectacle Island. I was both surprised and gratified when he turned out for my wife's memorial service on the island, very ably organised by the late Ted Wynberg - another one of the good guys gone. Heather was CO of SYDNEY on a couple of occasions. Fair winds and following seas Sir, thank you for your service to our nation and our Navy.

I received the following sad news from Col Kelson this afternoon...

Was advised today that one of Natures real characters, Dean 'Dino' Gedling, ex Navy Phot, passed away on 21 December, 2020.

He certainly enlivened many a RAN-SH run, and will be sorely missed...

(Dino, seen here "taking the knee" at our 8th Annual RAN Skilled Hands Sydney Rocks Christmas Pub Crawl Smokey... He really endeared himself to our clique...)



They have no grave
but the cruel sea.
No flowers lay at their head.
A rusting hulk is their tombstone.
Afast on the ocean bed.
They shall not grow old
as we who are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them
nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun
and in the morning,
we will remember them.

Lest we forget.

VALE Dino, rest on your oars, my friend, your journey's done... R.I.P.

Sad news at the loss of another member of the “Black Gang”. I never had the pleasure, but some of you may have served with Jeff.

His Vietnam service included 1 x Vung Tau trip in Sydney (65), 2 x Escort trips in Stuart (67 & 68) and 1 x Gunline Tour in Brisbane (71).

Condolences to Jeff’s family & friends.

Jeffrey paid off a Warrant Officer STOKER

I was a mate of Jeff’s since serving with him on HMAS BRISBANE on the last Gunline trip in 1971. Jeff was a hard runner & I have enjoyed his company many times at his house & mine.

My thoughts & prayers go to his wife Jackie who is going to miss him terribly.

The following was just sent to me by Billy Vernon:

There will be a graveside funeral service for Jeff on Friday 23 April at 1300, at the Polson Cemetery, Corser Street, Point Vernon (Hervey Bay).

Following the funeral, there will be a wake at the Hervey Bay RSL, 11 Torquay Road Pialba, on the 1st floor verandah located at the end of the dining area, from 1420-1630 Hrs

There will be a viewing, for anyone who wishes to say their goodbyes, at J. Kirk & Sons rooms, 224 Urraween Road, Urraween, at 1600 hrs Thursday 22 April.
